Cultural Route – Guided Tour of the DPESS Library Exhibitions

As part of the 34th International Congress on Physical Education & Sport Science, we invite you to a unique journey into the world of sports history and human determination.

At the Library Building of the Department of Physical Education & Sport Science (DPESS, Democritus University of Thrace), two remarkable exhibitions are hosted, highlighting the heritage of Thrace and iconic moments of Greek sport.

🏃‍♂️ Stylianos Kyriakides: The Marathon Hero
Discover the inspiring story of the 11-time Greek champion who won the Boston Marathon in 1946, famously shouting “For Greece!”.
His journey reflects the power of human will, as well as the impact of the “Kyriakides Package,” which secured 25,000 tons of humanitarian aid for post-war Greece.

🏛️ Panthracian Games: A Symbolic Institution
Explore the history of the most important regional sporting event, established in 1923.
An exhibition dedicated to unity, refugee integration, and the rebirth of Thrace through sport and culture.

The guided tour is a unique cultural activity of the Congress, connecting sport with history and society.
